…kill It

…kill itAs our “hero” states in his opening voiceover, “Deadpool 2” is a family movie. And I have to say, he’s absolutely right. Seriously.

Okay, not so much in the traditional sense…please, dear god, do not bring the children…but in the sense that it is about a family. Yes, they have problems. Yes, they have enemies. But at the end of the day, they would decapitate any henchman who tried to lay a finger on their family.

If you’ve seen its predecessor, which you really should before watching its sequel, you know that Deadpool is the antithesis of just about every other story in the Marvel Universe and it absolutely revels in the contrast.

This time around the story turns (even more) tragic, but our anti-hero greets the challenges with all the defeatist snark you’d expect. Of course, ultimately he learns his lessons and does the right(ish) thing while moonlighting as an X-Men (trainee), picking up a whole new group of friends (X-Force!), and slashing his way through some seriously gorgeous gore with the snark you know and love.

Much like its protagonist, “Deadpool 2” knows what it is and it knows what it is not and it has no qualms with literally telling its audience precisely both of those things.

The line between this darker corner of Marvel Universe and our own reality (and every other reality) does not exist in the Deadpool universe and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
