Laundry: The Clean, The Bad And... The... There's Nothing Else to Say....

Posted on the 16 July 2014 by Juliejordanscott @juliejordanscot

I developed this essay for Charity Craig's #GoodEnoughMom link up a little bit differently than most. I'm not going to pretend I'm surprised - I simply hope you enjoy this brief waltz around the laundry room.

Laundry not for the faint of heart For some reason, the topic of “Laundry” has popped up twice this week. I could get paranoid or completely self-centered and rant about this being somehow “all about me” and the literally loads and loads of laundry I have yet to do. Check out my entry in #BlogFlashDaily.

I don't think this was an accidental theme, actually....

It all started when the Eletrician Boys decided they wanted to make a hole in my closet and decided to throw all my clothes that were hung in my closet on my bed and floor and then proceed to cut holes which threw more dust everywhere including inside my closet.

This was the perpetual straw that broke the laundry basket.

Not to mention the fact now that electricity has been shut off to my garage which is where my laundry is, the ridiculousness of it just intensifies until I must choose to either laugh or do what I said I wouldn’t do in the first paragraph of this short vignette.

I consider that to be the most boring of borings so I will save that only for the trash compactor - battery operated, preferably for another day.

Here are some fun facts about laundry that may come in handy in your next washing machine show down.

  • I believe laundry is the cause of many divorces, right up there with money and sex.
  • It was a laundry line across the railroad tracks in San Juan Capistrano that caused Modesta Avila to be sent to prison for three years at San Quentin in 1889. She died there after serving two years of her sentence. She was twenty-two years old.
  • At Walt Disney world, it is reported 285,000 pounds of laundry are done daily. Yes, daily.
  • The air force calls their parachutes “laundry bags” - why, I don’t know. Maybe you know?
  • I will need a lot of prayers to catch up with all the laundry created during this home improvement process. If I wasn’t myself, I might divorce me. Think about it.
