I don't know about you, but I for one am tired of hearing from the sour "Game of Thrones" fans. To paraphrase the cinematic classic, " Ratatouille," people tend to "thrive on negative criticism, it's fun to write and read." But what does it say about us, as people?
So, this What to Watch Wednesday, I'd like to offer an alternative for some of you unsatisfied fans out there ... you know, other than signing another petition letting the creative team who gave years of their lives to creating this story know (officially) that you don't think they did a good enough job.
I know many of you didn't think the female characters had satisfying conclusions to their stories (I'm simplifying, I know, also #QueenSansa). So, today I'd like to offer you several options to fill that feminist void in your life. Take your pick of these incredible tales of kick-ass women who definitely would never burn an entire city with their dragon (probably).
"Fosse/Verdon"
I know I've written a lot about "Fosse/Verdon," but the finale is next week, so I only have so many more chances (and again when Michelle Williams is nominated for and wins ALL THE AWARDS) to convince everyone to tune in now. Awards and nominations aside (which are going to happen) the show is a
"Killing Eve"
I have a dream that one day, Jodie Comer will get nominated for an Emmy. For those who have not yet discovered the best show on television, she plays the non-Eve (i.e. Sandra Oh) half of this dynamic duo. To say that these ladies kill it every week, would be a little on the nose, but entirely accurate.
Bonus: The show was created by Phoebe Waller-Bridge, who happens to have created and also stars in another female-forward show, " Fleabag."
"Call the Midwife"
And for an infuriatingly relevant history lesson, check out season 8 of "Call the Midwife" (after you watch the first seven seasons, of course). You'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll weep tears of rage at the legislation happening more than 50 years after we already learned this lesson. Don't let the pleasant tone of the PBS voiceover lade fool you, this show is serious about women's rights.
