Happy Saturday folks! Congratulations, you made it to the weekend, a long one for some of you filled with Valentines, Zombies, Grammys, and World Radio Day! Guess which one today is?
Yes, happy World Radio Day, the day we take a moment to remember the good old days…just kidding.
Although we may not listen to the radio, at least here in the U.S., the same way that we once did, but it’s still there, in various forms.
This of course is coming for a very proud podcast addict. Seriously.
There may be no gathering around the transistor for nightly broadcasts, but the importance and community of the spirit of the radio is still alive and well, as we saw last year with the rise of Serial.
- Nerdist: I will always have a soft spot for my first podcast. It’s the stuff of dork’s’ dreams that may surprise you with its insightful moments.
- Serial: Now in its second season, this wonderful tribute to the value of investigative journalism is a real page turner (in the audio sense of the term).
- Freakonomics: I love anything that makes tedious topics exciting, and discusses the economics of being a vampire.
- This American Life: This NPR journalistic gem usually makes me cry with its beautiful, sometimes frustrating human interest stories.
