…Mind Your Manners

Posted on the 22 November 2016 by Zer @the2women

TurkeyIt’s two days before Turkey Day, which makes it the perfect time to start preparing for the inevitable.

I’m talking about the Thanksgiving Day conversations. Whether you’re dining with family, friends, or both this Thursday, odds are that at least one or two have differing opinions on…well let’s call it “current events.”

Aside from skipping out on dinner altogether, there’s really no avoiding it, so in an attempt to save you from any truly uncomfortable conversations, here are some tips for having a pleasant Thanksgiving conversation no matter your feelings on “current events”…

  • If possible, avoid discussing current events. Alternative, and less divisive topics include: climate change, religion, and regional sports rivalries.
  • Avoid buzzwords such as, temperament, left, right, Hamilton, wall, and Twitter.
  • If someone else brings up “current events” offer to refill drinks, go get ice, basically just look for the nearest exit.
  • Most important of all, remember that “current events” are just that “current,” and family is forever (whether you like it or not). So be kind, and remember we have more in common than “current events” might suggest.

On that note, I’ll leave you to your packing, prepping, and deep breathing.

…just for fun:
