Mixed Media - Vintage Dictionary, Music and Illustration on a Repurposed Furniture Board

Studio aedm 4Sometimes I feel like I am one of those squirrels in autumn that would run from tree to tree in my backyard when I was a little girl, incessantly filling their cheeks with goodies in preparation for hibernation.

I worry, “Am I just so in love with process that I collect half finished goodie after half finished goodie like a never ending grueling yet fun episode on a treadmill?”

I almost said hamster wheel instead of treadmill but then I thought too many rodents might ruin a good thing.

Like I just did.

However, I love process.

Don't get me wrong, I’m glad I love process. Sort of glad I love process, anyway.

I think perhaps I need to learn to equally loved product and even better, letting go of product and letting the world enjoy my product that can now become other people’s objects of enjoyment.

Today I did finish another project which isn’t photographing very well.

It is another mixed media collage with all lovely vintagey paper on a repurposed furniture board.

The music I used is about motherhood and this little girl illustration is from a vintage children’s collection of stories just speaks to me so purely of longing - I love this piece. I love the background (which y’all can’t see very well in the image, I know.)

Work in Progress (and Product?) Swirls of Vintage Sheet Music, ready to be put to use. Work in Progress (and Product?) Swirls of Vintage Sheet Music, ready to be put to use. I also worked on a piece of furniture I am calling an “Intention Stool” which I will show you later in the week when its complete, but over on instagram, this photo was very popular - it is of process, naturally, of one of the finishing touches to the stool.

I know, the photo editing is REALLY cool so it is sort of like a product within the process.

I think this squirrel/hamster just needs to calm down and stop worrying about labels and just create without thinking so much!

As an actor, I know getting stuck in one’s head is a surefire way to get into trouble on stage.

I also wrote a poem today - see it at this link but be sure to come back because I am addicted to your comments over here…. and I took this selfie which I have to admit, I like! Woot Woot!

Do any of you find yourselves worrying about your creative cycle?
