More of What I Love, Less of What I Don’t

'Slow breathing is like an anchor in the midst of an emotional storm; the anchor won't make the storm go away, but it will hold you steady until it passes. - Russ Harris

I wanted to start this off with a positive post about happiness and, well...life.

Some people are born to be naturally positive, other people need to work on it, and some people just do not care.

It depends on what mood my mind decides to be in for me, as to whether a day will be a good one or not. Through my journey of 'self-help' (I use these words lightly, I simply want to be a better version of me) I have realised that you have to put in a certain degree of effort to better yourself. You won't just wake up one morning feeling on top of the world and that state of mind carries on for the rest of your life - although if this has happened to you, perhaps you want to share some tips?

I wanted to share a few of the things that help me be happy. Doing these things can sometimes take a lot of effort, like who wants to go for a run when you feel deflated, but there's a strong chance you'll feel better at the end of it.

- Run - This makes me feel amazing. Running is an on and off kind of sport, one day you'll run like the wind and on another you may need to walk. Either way, the oxygen you are pumping around your veins will definitely assist with that little feeling we call happiness.
- Yoga - Learn that breathing technique and you'll be away. As above, regulating your breathing will help you feel wonderful. And whilst learning pretty poses won't change you as a person, it's pretty rewarding to feel yourself improve week after week.
- Read - For me reading takes you away to another world. It's calming, relaxing and a perfect way to take yourself away from reality just for a short while, if that's what you need. If you're totally okay with the real world, everyone needs a break every so often and it's great for that too.
- Write - Get those thoughts on paper! I've probably made about 7+ blogs in my teens, simply because I enjoy writing but I also like new starts. Maybe this will be the time I stick to it *fingers crossed* but it all boils down to the fact that it feels good to get the words out. Even if my posts help only me, can you blame me for that?
- Drink - Drink tea, drink water, maybe don't drink alcohol!? Whatever floats your boat, make sure to mix it with water. Making a conscious effort to keep hydrated was one of the best decisions I have ever made and can definitely tell when I haven't had enough. Green tea also has an amazing amount of benefits, but that's for another day.
- Adventure - Go explore. See parts of the world you have never seen before, even if it's in your own country. I'm saving to go travelling next year so going abroad until then isn't on the cards, so instead I've been adventuring to the places in England that perhaps I wouldn't usually. It's good to get to know your own home before you explore someone else's.

The above points are just a handful of general things that I do to keep grounded. Maybe they will help with you too?
