My Ankle

A couple of months before my wedding I was rear-ended in my Mini Cooper by two cars. One of the drivers was on her phone.
My car, although drivable, had rear damage.  The other two cars ended-up crushed like tin cans. To this day I thank my Mini Cooper for saving my life.
Life saving aside, the impact jolted me to the point of my shoes and glasses flying off my body. I was ok but in serious pain.
I started chiropractor appointments the same week and only stopped the week of my wedding and for our honeymoon.
I had pain but I was focused on my wedding.
Unfortunately, regardless of what the chiropractor did or what my fitness trainer instructed, my left food hurt and swelled easily.
Months later, six months to be exact, my hubby rushed me to the weekend urgent care. My foot had swollen to a football-like shape and was completely purple.
A quick X-ray confirmed that I had broken my foot and had scar tissue. I was referred to an orthopedic center that immediately fitted me for a walking cast.
I wore that cast -off and on- for about three months.
My foot, according to X-rays, has healed...but since that accident I haven't been able to walk without swelling while my pain level ranges from livable to unbearable.

I've been living like this for three years, until I did something quite typical of my clumsy self: I fell. In the middle of a mall. In between the legs of a chair. The good news: my but fit between the legs of the chair (yah! I'm not as fat as I thought I was). The bad news? I stood up scraped, bruised and with my ankle and knee hurting more than ever before.Yet I still managed. But then at Fitcation 13 my knee went out, swelled, and made it ridiculously uncomfortable to walk, let alone complete light hiking or exercise.I worried everyone and promised that I would see a doctor upon my return.I did.  One examination and MRI later the results came in: my ankle ligaments are torn, I have severe scarring and my knee is over compensating for my barely functioning ankle.I need surgery to repair the damage initially caused by the accident and worsened by my lack of attention to the pain.I can't ignore the pain anymore --- it's horrid.  And as much as I hate going under the knife, I'm beyond ready to stop this pain.Send me good jujus - I need them.
