My Birthday Week…

Posted on the 19 December 2012 by Redneckprincess @RdNeckPrincess

A friend of mine brought to my attention on facebook the other day, that it is my Birthday week.

Well indeed it is!!!

If you don’t know, my birthday is on Christmas Day.

No, I don’t feel ripped off, nor do I hate having my birthday on Christmas…

I don’t actually know any different, so it’s all good.

I am turning 48 this year…

How the FUCK did that happen?

Seriously.

I am sure it was just last week when we were loading in the truck and heading to Langley to have Christmas with my Aunt and Uncle and cousins…you know, when I was like…twelve.

It feels like yesterday that my kids were small, when they would come in at 5 in the morning and jump on the bed trying to make us get up early because Santa had come…

Time flies by so fast…

This year, I am totally embracing the birthday week thing.

I mean I am old…I can pretty much do whatever the hell I want to at this point, can’t I?

Frangelico

Every year I buy myself a bottle of Frangelico for my birthday. I haven’t yet, but today is the day.

I don’t share it either.

Because I am old. I don’t have to.

This morning we woke up to snow coming down…as a kid I remember every single year asking for snow for Christmas.

Our family didn’t practice any religion, so I can’t say that I prayed to God…but I would look up at the sky, squeeze my eyes shut really tight and wish as hard as I could that I would wake up to snow on my Birthday.

Some years I got lucky, though probably not as many years as I didn’t…but it is still a wish I make every year.

Christmases and birthdays have changed over the years, our family is smaller now, many of my loved ones have passed away, we have had a few years recently that we have all been together…unfortunately this year, we won’t be.

My brother and his lovely lady and the wee prince are staying in the great white north, and my parents are staying home this year as well…we were going to make the trek down to their house, but it is just so expensive to go, and we overwhelm with the numbers and noise in their small little home…and it’s supposed to snow.

So sadly, we are all apart this year…

My boys will be here with us and on boxing day Bruce’s daughter will be here as well…and everyone else is with me in spirit…

I have asked for an ice cream cake for my birthday this year too…

I guess I will have to share it. Dammit.

We have since the beginning of time celebrated my birthday on Christmas eve…so if you have any extra pressies flying around, or you want to stop by for a drink and a piece of cake, we will be here…

Just remember I don’t share the Frangelico…

xoxo
