My Pretty Playhouse by Cascades

As you all know, this is not a blog that reviews products .  I have gotten offers to do this and have always said no because it doesn’t fit the “feel” of the blog.  However, I recently got an email from a company that caught my eye.  It wasn’t because of the product they were asking me to review, it was because they contacted me knowing that I feature a monthly charity/non-profit organization and wanted to inform me that a percentage of their profits go to Habitat for Humanity.

When I was in college and post-college, I spent every spring break going on a Habitat for Humanity work trip.  I built houses in Florida, Georgia, Washington DC, Maryland and Virginia.  It’s an organization that is near and dear to my heart.  To read more about what Habitat for Humanity does, click here.

These are not my kids. But they do seem damn happy. Maybe that’s because they aren’t my kids…

So I agreed to review the product.  This one and only time.  I agreed because I might not be able to build houses as much anymore, but maybe someone will like this product, buy it and help give Habitat for Humanity a little more cash to do what they need to do to help the homeless population. Warning: I write terrible product reviews, I will never get a job doing this in life.

The product:  My Pretty Playhouse by Cascades

This is a Canadian based company that makes all of its products with 100% recycled cardboard.  This playhouse is designed to being drawn on with crayons, markers, and perhaps even the blood of siblings, and that is definitely one of the most fun aspects of it.  The size fits approximately two toddlers but would be harder to fit older children inside.  It is fairly easy to assemble, though would probably benefit from labeling the tabs so it is easier to match up.  The house is perfect for a rainy day activity or some quality inside time.  However, don’t go thinking that this playhouse will last you months or years.  We had ours up for about two weeks and with our 17 month old destructor of a kid and a 4-year-old who cried whenever he came inside, it needed to be taped, fixed and eventually thrown out after playing with it for those few weeks.  However, for those few weeks, it was a big hit.

So would I recommend it?  Yes.  My kids loved it and that’s what really matters.

There, I’m done. Now back to telling embarrassing stories about my parenting efforts…
