That's right, ladies and gents.
After many late nights, lots of hours, skipping writing a good half of my novel and several moments of, "Ughhhhhhh. Words are hard!" I successfully completed NaNoWriMo 2012.
I began today with my word count at 45052 words.
I ended today with 50097 words. Or 50129. I'm not really sure. According to my Microsoft Word, my word count is at 50097, but obviously according to the word count validator on NaNoWriMo, I have 50129 words. Either way...
I wrote about 100 words early in the day before having to meet with some people and run some errands, then I returned home with Taco Bell and a slurpee from 7-Eleven (so healthy...I know) and got down to the business.
The best course of action, I decided, was to do writing sprints. Per Gina's suggestions, I cut them down to 30 minutes from the hour long ones I'd done previously with 15 minute breaks inbetween. And so the writing sprints began at 4:30.
From 4:30-5:00, I wrote 1912 words. Then I took a 15 minute break. From 5:15-5:45, I wrote 2028 words. Then my last sprint, which started at 6:00, only took 15 minutes for me to cross over the 50,000 barrier. If we go by my Microsoft Word count, then I wrote 1005 words in those last 15 minutes. If we go by NaNoWriMo's count, then I wrote 1037 words in those last 15 minutes. Either way, it's neither here not there, because I finished.
NaNo, at least. The book is nowhere near done. In fact, as I said, at one point I jumped through what could potentially be half of the book to a different spot in the book and kept writing. Hooray for writer's block.
Check back Monday for a more in depth post about the novel itself and how it's going, as it will hopefully end up becoming my first published book. Once I finish it, that is.
And now that I'm not furiously trying to write thousands of words each day, I will hopefully get back to a normal blogging schedule. At least more than once a week.
