While walking around Bamenda (My home city in Cameroon), I realised that I was the only natural haired girl walking around for the majority of the time.  This year will make 2 full years since I chopped off my relaxed hair and went natural. And I've been home twice with my natural hair. Both times I experienced the same thing. In general people were quite amazed that I kept my "Virgin" hair, as they call it. Most girls back home have relaxed hair so ladies had mixed feelings towards my hair. Most were concerned about the "pain" and "burden" of kinky hair. Almost everyone asked this same question "Why don't you just relax it? It's much easier!". On the other hand most guys were so excited to see a girl with natural hair! They seemed more accepting of it and a couple even told me to stay natural! Of cause I cannot generalise and say there are NO girls back home with natural hair. What I'm trying to say is that majority of girls have relaxed hair. There is absolutely no problem with this. The problem comes in when there is this perception that there is something wrong with natural hair.
Why don't girls keep natural hair back home? Is it different in South Africa?

I carry on with this discussion on my YouTube Channel. I talk about the natural hair community in Cameroon as well as South Africa.Join the discussion and share your opinion!#PressPlay
