OCM…it’s Like OCD, Only Not Like That at All…

Grapeseed oil

It is close enough to OCD to catch my attention. So I tried it. Now before you poo-poo this, you should try it, just for a week. I promise you will say “what the hell…why haven’t I done this forlikeever….”

It is called the Oil Cleansing Method.

It is cleansing your skin with oil. Obviously, right?

Here are the different oils you can use:

  • Castor Oil (potent anti-inflammatory properties, but is also healing and cleansing though it seems to be a wee bit controversial on some levels, go to this link for more info, but a lot of people seem to swear by it) I personally haven’t tried this yet.
  • Jojoba (all skin types, but very desirable for acne-prone skin)
  • Sweet almond (all skin types, especially oily)
  • Grape seed (all skin types, especially oily)
  • Avocado (dry and aging skin)
  • Sunflower Seed (all skin types)
  • Olive (all skin types)
  • Apricot Kernel (dry, aging, and normal skin)
  • Argan (all skin types, especially aging skin … very pricey)
  • Tamanu (all skin types … very pricey)

Here are a few ratios if you want to add castor oil to your preferred oil:

  • If you have oily skin  try a blend of 2/3 Castor oil and 1/3 Grape seed oil (or any other oil you love).
  • If you have normal skin try a blend of 50/50 Castor oil and Carrier oil.
  • If you have dry skin you could try a blend of 1/3 Castor oil to 2/3 of Carrier oil.

You can totally try different mixes of oils to get the perfect recipe for you :)

I use just Grape seed oil. It makes my skin feel amazing.  I have fairly balanced skin so it works great for me.

That and I just think it is like the best oil on earth, and as of two days ago, there will no longer be any vegetable or canola oil allowed in my house, so not only can you clean your skin with this, it is a great high heat cooking oil. Just so ya know.

I added a few (like 10) drops of Lavender essential oil to my mix of about 1/2 cup of oil, because it smells fabulous and it can be used to treat a number of skin problems such as acne, burns, dry skin, eczema, itchy skin, sunburn, seborrhea, and skin inflammation. Remember if you have sensitive skin that essential oils can irritate, so always test a little spot first, or just leave the fragrance out all together.

I was trying to do this twice a day, but I just found that doing it in the shower in the morning was kind of a disaster. It is not recommended to use an oil in the shower and then rinse it off. It makes showering slightly dangerous as it covers the bottom of the tub…just a wee bit of advice…

So I do it at night, in the sink. I find once a day is working perfectly.

All you have to do is take about an quarter sized dollop of oil in your palm and gently massage it into your skin.

Give yourself a facial massage for about two minutes, it feels great.

Once you are done, take a hot wash cloth and lay it on your face letting the heat penetrate your skin for about thirty seconds, or until the cloth cools down, repeat this a couple of times and wipe off excess oil.

It feels so good and your skin will be incredibly soft and smooth.

It does not cause your skin to break out, even though you would think that it would. I actually have less breakouts on my pre-menopausal skin than I did before.

The reason that your skin gets blemished is that it produces excess oil. So, if you provide your skin with an external oil, it will not need to produce as much oil. Which leads to clearer skin.

Makes sense right?

You may have an adjustment period that your skin will seem a little worse, this shouldn’t last more than a week while your skin gets rid of the impurities, try and just make it through this period and it will be over before you know it.

Also remember, that like anything, this doesn’t work for everyone, do your research and make sure it will be right for you.

I am really happy I tried it as it is really working well for me.

Try it yourself… it is so easy and the difference in your skin will boggle your mind. Trust me. I wouldn’t lie to you.

Have a fabulous Monday!!
