Oops, I Did It Again…

Posted on the 28 November 2012 by Simplystephanieblog @StephanieKonar

Last week I created a one-of-a-kind masterpiece as part of my “economical redecorating” initiative with my Pier One Cherry Blossoms recreation. This week, I took my skills to a new level of Martha Stewart…I made my own holiday wreath.

Oops, I did it again…

Truth be told, it was actually incredibly simple. Since it is the season of giving, I will share my creative secrets with you. Start with a branchy wreath, and spray paint it a festive winter white (this looks even more festive in Florida…).

Oops, I did it again…

While the wreath is drying, use a CD (that you don’t want to ever play again) and trace circles on approximately a yard and half of felt cloth. I continued with the winter wonderland look and picked an off white.

Oops, I did it again…

After cutting out all traced circles, cut said circles in a circular motion in order to make rosettes (see above picture). Start with the inside portion, and slowly wrap the fabric around itself to make the rosette. Secure the end with hot glue.

*Note: After cutting the circles into a swirly, I then cut some of the long swirly strips in half to make different sizes rosettes for the wreath.

**Warning: Hot glue, and the gun from which the hot glue comes out of, are really freaking hot. Do not touch the glue or the gun- intentionally or accidentally. You’ve been warned.

Oops, I did it again…

After your hand stops shaking from the painstaking cutting that feels like it never ends (I highly suggest outsourcing the cutting if possible to a significant other, younger sibling, etc.), glue rosettes onto the wreath in a fashion that you find appealing.  Stop when you feel there are enough and leave room for a bow to tie it onto the door.

Oops, I did it again…

Last but not least, use some fancy ribbon to secure the wreath to the door and make a fancy bow at the top. Then brag to any guests, neighbors, UPS delivery people (anyone you can find) that YOU made your wreath on the door, thank you very much, and you did NOT buy it! While they stare in admiration at your work, quickly offer to make them one as well, for the low price of (insert what you think they will pay here based on their facial expression).

Do you make any handmade holiday decorations?
