Our Wedding Day: The Dance Party Begins

Posted on the 19 January 2012 by Msadams @HilaryFerrell
After finishing our gorgeous sunset portraits, we ran back into our reception so we could get the dancing start.
Our Wedding Day: The Dance Party BeginsSerendipitously enough, as soon as we got to the dance floor, Mr. A’s favorite song, “The Cupid Shuffle,” came on.  It literally got everyone onto the dance floor (well minus my dad, but you saw that coming).  It was such a great way to start our dance party.

We told our DJ from the start that we wanted a total dance party atmosphere and we didn’t not want a bunch of slow, boring songs.  Ian was really great about gauging the crowd and keeping the energy up all night long.  I now fully respect this having attended other weddings where the DJ ruins all the dance momentum with an ill timed slow dance.

You can rest assured that we didn’t stop one time for a slow dance nor did we take a break from the dance floor.  As soon as we got back from our pictures, we planted our feet on the dance floor and didn’t leave until the reception was over.  Apparently, this also is not very commonplace.  A lot of our friends commented that they’ve never seen another bride and groom spend the whole night on the dance floor.  I guess we are just dancing fools.
Our Wedding Day: The Dance Party BeginsI also had a lot of people tell me leading up to my wedding that they didn’t have time to dance with their spouse at their wedding.  So I made it a point to get some quality dancing time in with the Mr. (as evidenced by our bajillion dancing pictures).

I was really impressed with how well our dancing pictures turned out.

I’ve seen tons of wedding photographers just shove a camera into a dance crowd and haphazardly press the shutter.

Jason and Cicely really took the time to frame out the dancing shots and caught some really perfect moments.
Our Wedding Day: The Dance Party BeginsOne of the coolest moments was when Ian started playing “Shout,” the perennial classic.  Our guests formed a huge dance circle around the Mr. and me and let us have a little dance off (complete with Mr. A showing off his socks…HIL.AR.I.OUS).

Anyway, while all of these shenanigans were going on, our photographers sneaked off to the side to take this awesome shot.

Does that not say dance party to you?
I’m glad the Mr. and I stuck to our dance party guns on this one.  We purposely orchestrated our night so that we could enjoy uninterrupted dancing (i.e. no break for a creepy garter/ bouquet toss) and I think for that we were rewarded with an amazing dance party.
Was dancing a priority at your wedding?
