PESD: Post-Election Stress Disorder

PESD: Post-Election Stress DisorderIt’s finally here. Election day. Only one man will be a winner. Someday, I hope to say a woman will be elected. I’d like to see a woman become President of the United States, and I look forward to the pleasure of someday casting my vote for her.

I’m pro-women. That’s my platform.

The Scribe is non-partisan and does not share its political views. Why? Because I still want you like me in the morning. Vote for me! Funny blogger! Hopeless romantic writing poignant stories!

I am not here to write about politics. There are plenty of people who do that for us already.

Nevertheless, tomorrow many Americans will suffer from Post-Election Stress Disorder (truly, there is such a thing) when their candidate does not win the presidential election. Indeed, they may suffer from the blues. If your candidate wins and your friend’s does not, don’t rub it in. Think of how you would have felt if it had gone the other way. Have empathy for your friend. Don’t gloat. Don’t make them want to punch your lights out.

For the truth is, life will go on, and we’ll all get back to work. We’ll get back to doing important things like pinning Victoria’s Secret bras and Noodle Pies on Pinterest and bashing the Kardashians on Twitter. We’ll spend inordinate amounts of money on Snuggies and Let Elmo Rock Christmas and Hanukkah gifts, but we’ll do it with a smile because we work long hours and pay our taxes and try to raise our kids the right way.PESD: Post-Election Stress Disorder

We may even be able to be friends again with those who’ve besieged us with political prose on Facebook, Twitter, and even on LinkedIn that we may not have agreed with during this campaign. As long as they don’t gloat. But be prepared for it. Some folks will ignore the Scribe’s advice and will not take into consideration those ailing with PESD.

However, come Wednesday, it will all be over. We’ve got a break until the next one four years from now.

Perhaps that’s something to be thankful for this November.
