Major League Baseball became a little less exciting this week.
This past Wednesday, the Playing Rules Committee voted to outlaw home-plate collisions.
As a concerned fellow human being, I get it. Home-plate collisions can result in some serious injuries.
As a fan of baseball, that’s pretty much the most exciting thing in baseball.
Yes, you can make a good argument for homeruns, stolen based, nearly stolen bases, and a well-placed fly ball. But a standoff at the plate, it’s like the Hail Mary of baseball.
Thankfully, all is not yet lost. The new rule hasn’t officially been written. So we can still hope for some flexible language.
Also, it still needs to be approved by the Major League Baseball Players Association. So, here’s hoping they vote to keep the game exciting.
