Incase you didnt notice, I love a free magazine! and Printemps departement store offers its customers the chance to explore the store, the store design and behind the scenes in its luxury issues.
I have a collection of Vogue, Harpers Bazaar & The Sunday Times - Style Magazine, going back 10 years or more, when my fashion obsession started. I actually think that the Sunday Times is one of the reasons i got into Fashion. Every week i would flip the pages and clip my favorite images until I got older and realized that keeping the whole magazine was probably a better idea. My collection helped me out no end when i was writing my Graduate dissertation and continues to be my first port of call when i start research for any new project. Touching the glossy pages and cutting and sticking beats digital imagery any day! theres nothing like the smell of gloss print & perfume testers, its a tactile sensation that you just dont get from Google, and with a quality that I just never seem to achieve from my home printer.
These Mags cover everything from clothes to interiors, art and travel. They open up to me, a world that I havent yet explored and have educated me on designers such as Galliano, Westwood, Gaultier and De La Renta. You could say that the missing pages tell the story of my creative life, and you will find clippings all over my apartment, in drawers, in books, under the sofa even in my handbag!
I would tend to say that i dont collect any one thing, and im not dedicated to having every issue that was published by a certain brand, but when I have a basement full of fashion publications, I think its safe to say that I am a collector of images (another reason that i am on tumblr). So that’s the reason I guess why i pick up every free magazine that I possibly can, why I have my camera on me at all times and why I troll the internet looking for photos. a Freebie is not to be scoffed at, especially considering that the collection I have probably matches the cost of one year of my student debt!
My bsession wont stop here though: like Karl Lagerfeld reveals in the documentary Lagerfeld uncovered, I will subscribe to the international prints as soon as I have the cash (and space), my dream is to subscribe to the Collezioni catwalk publication and maybe to open a museum for my passion one day :p Who knows?
