Promise Me Nothing

Posted on the 17 April 2014 by Sreesha @petrichor_blore

I ask you not to give me a single promise,For promises are too easy to break.I, in turn, will swear to not have expectationsYour heart isn’t truly mine to take.
I ask you not to tell me you love me every night before you sleep,Nor should you be obligated to make me your first thought when you wake,The day you forget to, I will be hurt,Habits, unlike promises, can’t be easily changed.
I ask you not to skip your dinner,Just because I am on a diet and you thought of giving me company,When your stomach rumbles at three am,Unknowingly, unwittingly, mildly you will resent me.
I ask you not to watch that chick flick,Because my friends couldn’t stop raving about it.There’s a chance I might hate it too, and I am watching it just to fit in,I don’t want you to waste two hours that you could probably spend doing better things.
There were never complexities or mind games between us,I ask you to keep it that way; we both love the simplicity we share,I ask you these things because what we share need not be put in words,Without your promises, I know how much you care.
