Q is for Quest

Q is for Quest "Ever since the dawn of civilization, people have not been content to see events as unconnected and inexplicable. They have craved an understanding of the underlying order in the world. Today we still yearn to know why we are here and where we came from. Humanity's deepest desire for knowledge is justification enough for our continuing quest. And our goal is nothing less than a complete description of the universe we live in." ― Stephen Hawking, A Brief History of Time

For as long as I can remember, I have been on a quest, a spiritual journey. Since my earliest times I have been seeking to make sense of my universe. Although it hasn't taken the form of journeys like Native American vision quests, or African initiations, or even anything akin to the Medieval search for the Holy Grail, still, my quest has been to understand the "underlying order in the world."

It's no joke to come to planet earth and forget everything you knew on the other side of life. It's not for the faint of heart. For life here can be a downright challenge to navigate, and one never really knows just where one is at any particular moment. I sometimes feel that just as I have gotten my finger on the pulse of some understanding, something - some dynamic, some energy, some wrinkle - is thrown into the mix and there I am questioning and seeking all over again.

"The journey is the treasure." ― Lloyd Alexander
Q is for Quest

Seeking to figure out the why of my life, and the who/what/when/where as well, I trod on. After all, I have learned that it is the journey which matters, not so much the end. I give thanks for clarity, and understanding, and growth, for it is this quest which I am compelled to undertake and which graces my life with its gifts of wisdom and meaning. I seek only for something higher, better, more, an ideal, and in the process, I glean bits and pieces which help me better know myself. I count myself happy that the journey continues to be full of mystery and magic, lessons and learning, wonder and wisdom. For ultimately, to know the magnificence of my spiritual kingship clothed in the ordinary clothes of embodied humanity is my quest - it's what drives me forward.
