…Rate

Thumbs up and downIn a world of “likes”, “favorites”, and Yelp, it’s hard to imagine that there’s anything left to provide our heart-felt thumbs up, heart, star, or scathing review of. It turns out there is, or was, thanks to the soon to launch app — Peeple.

As the name implies, this service lets you rate people. That means any person, whether they’re a casual acquaintance or someone you’ve known your whole life. All you need is their phone number, and an opinion.

While this kind of online judgment begs many questions, the first that comes to mind is — Why?

Seriously, while I’m sure its creators had the purest of intentions (and some serious cash) motivating them, Peeple seems destined to become a monster.

The last thing the world needs is another way to judge people. Even if all the reviews are positive, do any of us want to feel like we’re living our lives under that level of scrutiny. It’s no secret that we’re constantly being judged, but having that judgment posted online (no matter how glowing the review) seems like an awful idea.
