So the “fall season” has been rolling out since before the Emmys, and frankly, keeping up with it is impossible. So, as we stare down several more weeks of “Fall Debuts,” I thought I’d take a moment this What to Watch Wednesday to recap and recover.First, here’s what we’ve got so far (the highlights):
“Star Trek: Discovery”
The latest installation in this interstellar saga has received some rave reviews following its debut on CBS this past Sunday. But don’t expect to tune in to see the next episode this Sunday. The series will live out the remainder of its days on CBS All Access, the network’s paid streaming service. I’m not judging, I’m just saying it seems a shame to hide such an inclusive show behind a paywall.
“Dancing With the Stars”
My one reality TV guilty pleasure (that I feel absolutely no guilt for) has been back for a couple weeks now and already given us some great performances. You should watch. It’s amazing.
“Young Sheldon” and “The Big Bang Theory”
I’m grouping these for obvious reasons, but I have to say I’m impressed by the efforts taken to make “Young Sheldon” its own thing. Stylistically the show looks nothing like the show it prequels (yes, I made it a verb). The show feels like a bit like an hour-long drama, but fits quite sweetly in its half-hour comedy format. And of course, TBBT continues to be its delightful self into its 11th season.
“The Good Place”
The end of season one of this incredible series left a few things up in the air. And, seriously, do not start with the second season. Go back and watch the first, or you will be missing out. However, the first episode of season two has already continued to impress. So go watch season one now. Seriously. Don’t even watch the clip below.

And of course there’s still plenty more to come with old favorites returning (some from longer breaks than others) and new gems to discover. Here’s a few I’m looking forward to:
“Will and Grace”
The reviews of this long-awaited return are in, and they’re quite excellent…as though we expected anything less.
“Superstore”
The end of last season was a literal and figurative whirlwind, and I for one can’t wait to see where things landed (literally).
“The Mayor”
The promos alone convinced me of this show’s awesomeness and then Yvette Nicole Brown showed up and I was sold. The first episode is available on demand now, and it’s quite superb and undeniably hilarious.
“Ghosted”
This show had me at Craig Robinson and Adam Scott investigate the paranormal. It’s wacky, weird, and finding itself a little bit in the pilot (available on demand), but I’ll be sticking with it for a week or two to see where this zany tale goes.
