Happy Star Trek Day! Today the beloved sci-fi series turns 51. With all the reboots, spinoffs, and films, it’s clear that we haven’t quite tired of this crew of characters yet. This fall sees the return of Star Trek to the small screen, and it couldn’t have come at a better time.
Star Trek is about many things, one of which is the spirit of discovery. The human need to seek out new worlds comes with its fair share of less than admirable qualities, but when it’s paired with an open mind and a willingness to learn this pioneering spirit can do wonderful things.
Star Trek is a reminder of the good that can come from human ingenuity and fearlessness. It’s a reminder of what can be accomplished when we work with and not against each other. It’s a reminder that diversity is a strength not a weakness. Most importantly it’s a reminder of our capacity for goodness.
And on that note, I’ll leave you to enjoy the rest of Star Trek Day…live long and prosper.
