I was very excited to receive these samples from the lovely people at Golden Wonder yesterday. They have recently partnered with Heinz to bring out two new crisp flavours; Heinz Tomato Ketchup and HP Sauce!
These flavours are available in special edition 32.5g bags and are priced at 39p each. Single bags will be available in all major supermarkets including Tesco, Sainsbury's, Asda, Morrisons and Waitrose.
HP Sauce (named after the House of Parliament) is the best known brown sauce brand within the UK, apparently one in four of all UK households get through at least one bottle of HP Sauce a year.
When I opened the bag I could certainly smell HP Sauce and it's familiar fruity yet spicy aroma. The flavouring gave the crisps a slightly brown color and I thought that they tasted really good. They were full of flavor and not overly salty or greasy. My husband absolutely loved them, apparently they are the best crisps he has ever tasted! This I found interesting as he doesn't eat HP Sauce; he would usually pick ketchup instead but he actually preferred this flavor.
I personally was more excited about the Heinz Tomato Ketchup flavor. Apparently 94% of all sauce users have consumed Heinz Tomato Ketchup in the last month, this doesn't surprise me to be honest. I love ketchup and only Heinz will do in my opinion. I remember another company bringing out ketchup crisps a few years back, sadly they didn't do it for me, I found them quite bland and artificial tasting.
These Heinz Tomato Ketchup crisps however are on another level, I could tell that ketchup was Heinz! They smelt lovely and had a gorgeous red-ish color to them. Like the HP Sauce crisps, they had a strong flavor without too much salt and grease and this is what I like about Golden Wonder crisps.
Verdict
My husband and I both loved the new Heinz flavours from Golden Wonder and will definitely be looking out for these when we go shopping. The good news is that further flavours are going to be introduced to the range throughout the year. What Heinz flavours would you like to see?
