The lovely people at Tesco very kindly sent me some vouchers so that I was able to try some of their new chilled ingredients. This is a clever range of butters, melts and marinades designed to make your meals a bit more special. They are designed to boost veggies, meat or fish dishes in one easy step and each product comes with it's own recipe and suggestions.
Roasted Garlic & Herb Butter and this Sundried Tomato, Basil & Parmesan Butter both come in 4 packs of disc shaped portions and cost £1.25 per pack or 2 for £2. There is also a Lime Coriander & Chilli Butter in the range.
I couldn't resist spreading each of the butters on some warm bread. They both smelt amazing and tasted delicious. I liked the idea of being able to make your own garlic bread as Mr Review Addict and I both prefer wholemeal bread but I don't think I have ever seen a wholemeal ready-made version in the shops.
The butters are quite versatile, you don't just have to use them for bread; you could add them to meat, fish, rice or pasta! The Garlic & Herb butter contains 94 calories per portion and the Sundried Tomato, Basil & Parmesan butter contains 78 calories per portion.
The Tandoori Style Marinade serves 2 and is made up from 2 pots; 1 contains a tandoori style sauce whilst the other is a whole milk natural yogurt. Half a pack contains 94 calories and it costs £1.50 or 2 for £2. There is also a Greek style version and a Middle Eastern marinade available.
This marinade is ideal with chicken. There are a couple of suggestions on the packet and I decided to use some diced chicken and coat in the sauce and bake in the oven. I then mixed in the yogurt and served with rice and veggies. It was very nice and so quick and simple to make, although from my photo you will probably see that I could of done a better job of mixing it all up!
I also picked up this Cheesy Chorizo and Smoked Paprika Topping as part of the 2 for £2 offer. I can't wait to sprinkle this on top of some macaroni cheese or maybe on top of a jacket potato!
Verdict
I really enjoyed the bits of the new Tesco Chilled Ingredients range that I have tried so far and I can't wait to experiment with them a bit more!
