…Roll Along

20140714-155023-57023702.jpgDespite our best efforts, the FIFA World Cup came to an end yesterday. Which means it’s time to find something to fill this new gap in our sports-viewing schedule.

There’s always the old American summer standby of baseball.  Of course, with 162 games in a season, it makes the World Cup running time seem short, so you may need something to mix it up.

If you’re looking for something a bit more international, might I suggest the Tour de France, which kicked off in England just over a week ago.

Yes, you read that right.  The Tour de France, started in England this year.  As if that wasn’t enough excitement, the Tour is also going through parts of Belgium and Spain.

See all the fun stuff the World Cup has been distracting you from.

If you’re concerned that you might be too far out of the loop to catch up with this race in progress, here’s a cheat sheet:

  • The current leader is Vincenzo Nibali.  As his name would suggest, he’s Italian.
  • Today, the Tour wrapped up its 10th stage…only 11 more to go.  Although, tomorrow is a rest day, so don’t expect any major updates to the standings.
  • The favorite to win it all, Alberto Contador, had to withdraw today after crashing and breaking his leg.

And now you’re officially up-to-date on this year’s Tour de France.  With the favorite no longer in the race, it could be anyone’s for the taking.

It may not be as exciting as soccer (or football), but it’ll help pass the 326 (or so) days until the next World Cup.
