…Root, Root, Root

Cardinals PumpkinIt’s finally here baseball fans, the postseason.  Okay, well depending on how you feel about tiebreakers, you could argue that it doesn’t officially start until Thursday…but what fun is that?

Sure, by its end the postseason feels like it’s gone on for months, but we’re not there yet.  It’s only just beginning, and we’re going to be excited about it, whether you like it or not.

Speaking of “like” this is also the time of year when Cardinal fans are reminded just how much the rest of the league’s fans hate us.

If you think I’m lying or being hyperbolic, then I envy your ability to tune out the haters, but that doesn’t make it any less true.  If you don’t believe me then check out this lovely Major League Baseball Hateability Index put together by The Wall Street Journal.

As you peruse the results, you’ll find that out of this year’s postseason teams we’re number one…by nearly two points.  Although, it’s hard to be too hurt by this title, when those two points are half of the pennants our team has won in the last 10 years, it takes some of the sting out.…Root, Root, Root

Other factors that earned us the top title is our dedication to our team.  We earned a point for “having the best fans in baseball”, another for being a “nation,” and a third for following our team on the road.  While I can appreciate how some of these might be obnoxious to fans with a less successful track record, I also don’t see any of the other postseason teams labeling their fans as the best or “the best.”

If being the best puts us at the top of the Hateability Index, then so be it.  They say it’s lonely at the top, but thankfully we have a Cardinal nation of the best fans in baseball to keep us company.

Let’s go Cards!
