The “elite” world of Google Glass users has just risen a bit higher.
The fact that Google has partnered with companies such as Ray-Ban and Oakley, in an attempt to make their product more attractive, is old news.
Now, Diane von Furstenberg has become the first designer to actually start selling Glass frames.
I’ll reserve judgment of the design for those who actually own Glass, but I will say that these frames have created their own very concentrated niche market — the designer addict nerd.
While Google has high hopes for the Glass, the fact is, there aren’t a whole lot of users out there. Add in the fact that anyone who owns a pair has already invested $1500 in the product, and asking them to spend another $300 or more so they don’t look like a cyborg while using it, well that seems a bit steep.
It’s a good idea in theory, but the fact is, that’s a lot of money for a product that is still being tested. Maybe we can try the designer frames once we actually know what we can use Glass for.
