See No Evil 2 (2014)

By Newguy

logoDirector: Jen Soska, Sylvia Soska

Writer: Nathan Brookes, Bobby Lee Darby (Screenplay)

Starring: Glenn Jacobs, Danielle Harris, Katharine Isabelle, Kaj-Erik Eriksen, Chelan Simmons, Greyston Holt, Lee Majdoub, Michael Eklund

Plot: A group of friends pays a late-night visit to the city morgue to surprise Amy (Harris) on her birthday. But the surprise is on them when the one-eyed corpse of brutal psychopath Jacob Goodnight (Jacobs) unexpectedly rises from a cold sub-basement slab. Their wild party quickly turns into a terrifying slay-fest as the sadistic mass-murderer resumes his savage rampage complete with hooks, surgical knives and power saws.

Verdict: Slasher Soska Style

Story: We follow our young morgue employees as they have to deal with the corpses of the Jacob Goodnight massacre. We have to see how the two employees desperately try and flirt with each other, when a group of friends come for a surprise birthday party. We go through the typical party scenarios; including one friend having an obsession with the Goodnight murders (Even though they only happened that day) she searches the morgue for the body only to discover that he wasn’t dead. Now the group are now trapped in the morgue with the murderer chasing them down to complete his mother’s wishes.

I haven’t been afraid to question a lot of thing that happened in the first one, mainly that the wrong people were the heroes. This ended up with a group of much more realistic good guys, working everyday jobs and planning on enjoying life. I also think a big positive would be the group only enjoying a few drink, no use of drugs which seems all too often in slasher films. Saying this we do lose some of the gore factor which pulls the film back into the classic horror slasher era. We don’t always need the over the top gore. It is interesting to see how the Jacob Goodnight character has been evolved into a much more interesting villain. Sadly this will just end up going down as an average slasher that tries too hard to respect too many of the originals. (7/10)

Actor Review

Glenn Jacobs: Jacob Goodnight serial killer who is thought to be dead, but he doesn’t stay dead for long and this time he has a building full of tools to use on his victims. Good performance from Glenn who makes for a villain everyone should be scared off. (8/10)

Danielle Harris: Amy birthday girl who chooses to help on at work with all the dead bodies arriving, when he friends throw her a party she is having a good time but when Mr Goodnight makes a surprise appearance she has to run for her life. Solid performance from the current scream Queen. (7/10)

Katharine Isabelle: Tamara the friend with an unhealthy obsession with Jacob Goodnight, she finds the body and continues to go too far with it, but soon she is sent running after Jacob awakens and starts killing. Solid supporting performance, as the over the top drunk character who fails to follow slasher rules. (7/10)

Kaj-Erik Eriksen: Seth co-worker of Amy who doesn’t quite fit in with everyone else there, he gets on with his work but he soon bumps into Jacob and spends the night trying to keep Amy safe. Solid performance as the unlikely hero. (7/10)

Support Cast: In what was a very small cast the remaining members of the cast all make the disposable characters.

Director Review: Jen & Sylvia Soska – With the twins putting their own touch to the slasher genre, they keep things very simple and try to keep the ideas from the originals instead of going for all the blood and gore. (7/10)

Horror: When it comes to slashers it full nicely into what you expect to get, it does have a few jumps and a few shock kills. (8/10)

Settings: Trapped in isolation works for this horror film.(10/10)
Special Effects
: Very good effects with some of the kills using good practical effects. (9/10)

Suggestion: This is one for the horror fans out there, if you like a slasher film you will enjoy but if you’re expecting plenty of blood and gore this might not be up to the standard you will be expecting. (Horror Fans Try)

Best Part: Jacob gets refuel

Worst Part: Lacks blood and gore the first one used.

Believability: No (0/10)

Chances of Tears: No (0/10)

Chances of Sequel: Could have one

Post Credits Scene: No

Oscar Chances: No

Runtime: 1 Hour 30 Minutes

Overall: Slasher With Plenty of Salutes
