This is not a drill, crusaders, we are one week out from Thanksgiving 2017, and it is officially crunch time.
There are sides to be selected, turkeys to be dressed, but before we get to any of that, first things first, there’s driving etiquette to be reviewed.
Yes, folks, we’re coming up on one of the biggest travel days of the year and for the occasion, I’m going to take a moment to tip my hat to the 2WC origin story and perhaps contribute a bit to the “One Man Crusade to Restore Civility to Modern Driving – Thanksgiving Edition.”
The fact is as many of us hit the road, it’s not just other travelers we’ll need to look out for. Odds are most of us are going to have to cope with a construction zone. But fear not worried travelers, I have brought you an expert opinion.

Of course, anyone who’s ever been caught in a zipper merge — because no one in the left lane is letting anyone in the right lane merge because it’s hard to believe they missed every single one of those “Right Lane Closed Ahead” signs for the last three miles, and it’s the principle of the matter — knows that in practice that’s rarely the case.
Yes, the zipper merge is a lesson in stubbornness and its ability to get us absolutely nowhere. Personally, I am more than happy to let anyone over into the correct lane that you should have gotten over into three miles ago, as long as you signal.
Side Note: For those unfamiliar, the turn signal is the blinky arrow light on your dashboard that’s meant to signal to other cars when you’d like to change lanes or perform a feat of driving mastery as you dart in and out of every single lane of traffic. No judgment. It’s not your fault you’re very important and have very important places to be.
And finally crusaders, always remember and never forget that we all get by with a little help from our fellow travelers. It only takes a moment to show some gratitude when some kind soul lets you merge into a lane you should have been in three miles ago.

The thank you wave (with all five fingers please) is a cornerstone of the crusade for driving civility, and it does not go unnoticed.
So to review, as you hit the road this coming holiday week — Be safe, be kind, be patient, and be sure to use your turn signal.
