I'm delighted to bring you some of my favourite shots from a recent Sherborne Abbey wedding in Dorset, where the bride's family had travelled all the way from Australia to be a part of the celebrations. Let's face it, if you're going to travel so far for a wedding, you need something pretty spectacular at the end of it - and Sherborne Abbey lives up to that and more!
As a wedding photographer, it's a real treat and privilege to be able to photograph a wedding ceremony in such an amazing location. I'm very lucky that Sherborne Abbey is not only in my local stomping ground and working area of Dorset, but also only twenty minutes away, so I get to enjoy this wonderful town and abbey on a regular basis. I've had the pleasure of photographing two weddings at Sherborne Abbey this season already, and have more booked in for next year, so I'm a very happy photographer!
Let's get back to talking about this particular wedding ceremony at Sherborne Abbey. If you don't know the town - which is very old and utterly picturesque - then you'll not be aware that on a Saturday it's absolutely buzzing with tourists, many of which have come to see the Abbey itself. Therefore, when there's a wedding occurring at the Abbey, you'll be guaranteed an appreciative audience outside when the bride arrives in her wedding car! It's a very different kind of wedding to those in the country village churches I often photograph in, and as a public building you will find tourists quietly standing at the back of the Abbey during the ceremony too, watching the proceedings. Tourists are often drawn in irresistably by the incredible sound of the Abbey choir, which even if you're not religious in any way, is a truly awe inspiring sound to hear.
