If you missed the Golden Globes last night, you missed out on quite the show. The Golden Globes are known for being the a bit less formal than the Oscars. However, last night, the Golden Globes showed a great deal of class. Which if you’re only watching it in hopes of witnessing a glorious, drunken acceptance speech, well, then last night was a complete letdown.
In fact, I won’t spoil anything for those of you who DVR’d the show and are planning on watching later tonight, but last night may have been the best collection of acceptance speeches in a single awards show.
If you think that sounds like a boring three hours of television, then you should know that after all the hype and speculation leading up to the awards, Amy Poehler and Tina Fey more than lived up to expectations. Unless you’re a fan of Bill Cosby or a member of the North Korean government, it was all done with a great deal of class and taste. Speaking of which, pretty much everyone at the awards last night might want to consider increasing the security on their computers, smartphones and themselves…seriously.
Overall, I think it’s fair to count this one as a success. Although it would have been nice to see at least one person stumble, or go off on an ill-advised tangent during their acceptance speech…maybe next year.
