As difficult as it may be to admit, the absolute, final days of summer are upon us. So, this What to Watch Wednesday I’m going to tell you to go outside and enjoy what’s left of it……but, if you were to ask me what shows are the best to enjoy during these final days of summer, I might have a few to share. Still let the record show that I encouraged interaction with nature first:
First up, because it’s nearly finished, is “Mr. Robot,” which was first recommended on this blog by the original OMC, and now I’d like to officially mention this incredible show. “Mr. Robot” is by no means alone in its cinematic approach to television, but the opening sequences of each week alone, make this show worth watching. That’s all I’ll say. Don’t miss it:
Next, this show aired months ago, and I’m just now discovering it, so I’m not so much a herald of its greatness as I am late to the party. Still, anyone who feels there simply isn’t enough quality programming about magic, “Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell,” is the answer to your prayers. Like I said, it started months ago on BBC America, but you can follow my lead (that is my leadership that was in fact led by others), and watch it On Demand:
Finally, I’d like to take you somewhere that 2WC has never been before, and frankly, I never thought 2WC would go: TV Land. No offense to all of the wonderful programming that’s come before it, but TV Land has majorly upped its original programming game lately, and that’s why it’s getting two show nods (yes two) in this section.
First up, a nod to my childhood TV viewing with Smallville’s Lex Luthor, Michael Rosenbaum, who is now starring in an incredible dark comedy, “Impastor.” It’s a show about a con man (though we’re not quite sure what his original crime was) who’s stolen the identity of a small town pastor, who plummeted to his death while trying to save the soul and life of said con man. Hey, I said it was dark:
And last, but certainly not least, “Younger,” which stars Sutton Foster (star of stage and screen, and the 2WC favorite that ABC Family killed well before its time “Bunheads”) and Hillary Duff (who will always be Lizzie McGuire to me). In short, the show is about a forty-year-old woman pretending to be 26 so that she can get back into the professional world, but it’s really about so much more than that. It’s about how we treat women. It’s about how we deal with and think about age, as women, and as human beings. It’s incredible:
