“Avoir l’apprenti dans le soleil” (“To have the apprentice in the sun”)
Marcel Duchamp, January 2012
Each time I take a look at this drawing, I’m wondering:
What is he trying to do? Is he climbing the music to get to the skies? Is he doing it for the sake of knowledge? Did his master ask him to? Did his master tech him to? Can the master teach one how to get to the skies? Does he have a master at all?
Or when you search for knowledge, or music or love as a matter of fact, you are just your own master and apprentice, one at a time?
