Some #Gratitude Therapy

"Without exception, every person I interviewed who described living a joyful life or who described themselves as joyful, actively practiced gratitude and attributed their joyfulness to their gratitude practice. And both joy and gratitude were described as spiritual practices that were bound to a belief in human interconnectedness and a power greater than us." Brene Brown in her book "The Gifts of Imperfection" (That pretty featured image on top is thanks to Gratitude Daily)

It has been an emotional few weeks with lots of changes even as life went on - it does go on, doesn't it? While tackling my usual routine - work, blogging, housework (never goes away, eh?) I've also been busy getting my son ready for college. Not all things have been going smoothly but I am thankful that we've been able to handle most things well. There was the sudden shock of my father-in-law being rushed to hospital and I am glad to say he's stable now.

If there's one thing I believe in, it is the balance of life. With the dark cloud, the silver lining shows up at some point or the other, it is just that we must be on the lookout for it. I have learned to be alert.

With good news, there's always the not so great. Similarly, with bad news, there's always something to soothe. If nothing else, the strength to accept what we cannot change and move on.

And so, in the middle of the last minute packing and chaos at home, I have the joy of making my gratitude list as my folks smile at me.

Some #Gratitude Therapy

Let's call it Gratitude Therapy, shall we?

Always works!

I have gratitude for...

  • Friends who keep me sane and hug me and make me smile as I shed tears. I know, stupid. I am grateful that my son has been accepted in one of the top science education and research institutes for their 5-year dual degree program. And here I am, all choked up because I'll miss him when he's away. I console myself that we've got Skype, cell phones and emails...and yet - tell that to my mommy heart!
  • For the strength and love of my family.
  • Finding an old notebook with my Mom's words in it...what timing!
  • The kindness of my neighbors, for their smiles and love.
  • Health and stable blood sugar, in spite of all the traveling and indulging, which is a little inevitable when away from home. Although I did my best to stick to salads, I had to consume the occasional goodie!
  • A trip to Ahmedabad unexpectedly and meeting one of my closest friends there.
  • A visit to the International Art of Living ashram where I met friends and had a beautiful day. I am looking forward to going again.
  • Those marathon phone calls with my best friend who knows me more than I know myself.
  • The precious days with my son, having fun cooking up stuff and freaking out over packing, always wondering whether we have thought of everything.
  • The lovely hours watching pre-schooler programs on TV. Weird right? But you know what? So feel-good and filled with laughter!
  • All the time I spent offline and outdoors, for my terrace, where I can walk even if it rains.
  • All the power outages which meant switching off everything and spending time chatting, singing or phoning friends, or walking around our area, enjoying the little things.
I am grateful for my life and the new phase that is unfolding.
