Soul Mining

Sometimes it is good to stand still, let go, do nothing.
Slow down, deviate from routine
Unwind, clear the slate, grab a fresh bunch of color pencils
And dream.

Today is my nineteenth wedding anniversary and I feel blessed to have known my life partner for twenty glorious, laughter filled years. Sure we've had our moments, but even as we argued, squabbled, disagreed, rolled our eyes, we were building our relationship based on trust, humor (a lot of it) and love.

I am not really in the pink of health today, what with high sugar levels and an ear ailment that just doesn't want to let go of me, and an annoying cold. The worst part, strangely, is the temporary reduced hearing, thanks to the treatment, which promises to make things much better. Okay, the yucky part is the smell of the ear drops - based in turpentine - that seems permanently stuck between my ears and therefore, my brain. I can't believe I actually used to like the smell of paint and such...but not as a constant. I feel lethargic all day.

But I am grateful for the quiet time and being able to lie in bed and read. A lot.

So we're not celebrating our anniversary in the traditional sense. But some things do constitute as celebrations and these were:

  • Phone calls from close friends to wish us
  • Coffee together in the morning
  • Being able to cook lunch
  • Freedom to take a nap without feeling guilty
  • Enjoy wallowing in memories
  • Feel happy about our closeness
  • Playing with emoticons on chat. We discover new ones that make us laugh all the time
  • Not worrying about a full sink, it certainly isn't going anywhere
  • Same with the laundry, pretty much stationary too, and patiently waiting
  • Looking around our messy home, lovingly, thinking of the story behind each object and smiling
  • Savoring a nice long hot bath. Not shower. With a brand new bar of soap, no less. Bliss
  • A long drink of water - sometimes nothing tastes better than H2O.
  • Listening to our son urging us to do something "special' each time we spoke to him
  • Taking a walk together on the terrace
  • Thinking of my Mom and imagining her shower her love on us
  • Filled with gratitude for life, just as it is.

That's all.

Life is good. And I am blessed.

Thank you for your comment ♥
