Sounds of Silence
The process of communication and information sharing has become only a push of a button away for this generation. It amazes me how various corners of the world can be connected forming a gigantic unified body of variety of information.
About three years ago, I heard this soothing song called the Sounds of Silence by Simon and Garfunkel released in 1966. Besides the great musical composition, the song has beautiful surreal lyrics which I found to be quite catchy. I remember pondering upon the meaning of the lyrics and I don't know why, but I came to a conclusion that they were speaking of alien abductions and being brain-washed by them. I shared my thought with a close friend at that time. Of course, he immediately debunked my analysis of the lyrics and told me according to popular analysis the lyrics apparently predict the growth in communication times to come will bring. It apparently speaks of how effortlessly people can or will be able to connect with one another that spoken words wont be necessary any more and how we are or will be constantly blinded by images, advertisements, news from all over the world. Continuously morphing our thought process.
I was able to relate this analysis as well. Though, I actually do not know what their real message was, but I guess it can be perceived in any way that satisfies one's mind.
Recently, my eyes captured a view of a communication tower located in an extremely deserted land with the population you can count on your finger tips. It really did amaze me to see that though there were like 10 people residing in that land, yet the place was well equipped with means of communication, and seeing those communication towers silhouetted in the lush green forest the only thoughts that crossed my mind were the words of my friend said three years ago with the sounds of silence playing in my head.
