…spin Your Wheels

Emmy-AwardsThe Emmy Awards are officially behind us, and that can only mean one thing—it’s time for us as an Internet society to collectively tear them apart.

That is, for those who didn’t get a jump-start during the ceremony.

I get it, sort of and admit that I am not innocent of the crime of online snark, but there’s fine line between being snarky and being a troll.

I also admit that some criticisms may have a point. I myself, haven’t quite come to a final consensus on some of the moments, but I know I’m not even going to touch that piece of “is or isn’t it sexist” conversation surrounding the Sofia Vergara on a spinning pedestal shtick. I will say that the range of reactions seems to go from “that was awkward” to “that was sexist.”

I also, won’t say that I disagree with those complaining about the same actors/shows winning over and over again for playing the same character. They’re great roles and great shows, I think we all know that at this point. Perhaps we could set a limit, especially if we’re going to redefine the genres anyway (please, someone explain to me how “Orange is the New Black” is a comedy).

Still, there were some highlights, that I think we can all agree were awesome—the Robin Williams tribute.

Yeah, the snarky ones pretty much picked everything else apart.

Although, if we learned nothing else from last night’s telecast (aside from the rules for correct usage of your and you’re) it’s that these award shows can be ridiculously predictable (aside from some awesome wins by Sherlock last night) and Internet trolls are simply performing a public service. So thank you, Internet trolls, whatever would we do without you?
