Summer Indulgences.

Don't you just love summer? It really is the one season that is completely dedicated to relaxing, socializing and enjoying time off. I've always made it my point to really enjoy it to its fullest before it's "back to school", a time to get serious and make money before the dreaded holidays. When I was working, I indulged in summer Fridays, ehem and Thursdays. In Brooklyn, Sundays were spent drinking ice cold Blue Points at afternoon kickball games at McCarren Park. And in Paris, nights had been dedicated to picnicking with friends on Pont Solferino or L'île de la Cité. Even Hollywood is on board with this easy breezy summer attitude, as the serious Oscar-caliber films don't come out until at least mid-September.
In order to stave off any pangs of boredom sous le soleil, I rely on one of my favorite fixtures of the season; summer reading. Last week, Kitty dropped by with a bag of books she had read, for me to take on vacation. Kitty, the literary gangsta had all of the old time classics, fine selections like L.A Candy and Fame Game by Lauren Conrad, Snooki: A Shore Thing by Nicole Polizz, The Truth About Diamonds by Nicole Richie....and of course, 50 Shades of Grey.
While I'm not sure I could exactly stomach a Snooki autobiography or a Lauren Conrad novel, I am curious about this summer's smut hit, 50 Shades of Grey and since it has been sitting in my room, luring me to read it, I figure why deny it? Kitty did buy it at full price, so she might as well get her money's worth and have it read twice....right?
Summer Indulgences.
Okay, I'm so full of it. I wanted to read the damn thing and haven't been able to put it down! I could no longer hold back. Since starting it, I have been feeling the way my grandmother described what reading Valley of the Dolls was like in the 60s; "a hot-to-trot housewife".
Summer Indulgences."My insides practically contort with potent, needy, liquid, desire.""I don’t remember reading about nipple clamps in the Bible"Oh geez...
So I don't love the book but I must to say, I have been enjoying it, cringing at some the descriptions, and blushing during some of the more racy scenes. Bottom line: I am fully entertained. And isn't that what summer is all about?
Who read 50 Shades? Any thoughts?
