Happy Hump Day friends! Are you counting down to the long weekend? I am. Easter is almost here... with eggs, bunnies, chocolates and Jesus. Well, not in that exact order. At my parent's place, Easter is kind of a big deal. It's is the beginning of spring cleaning and self cleansing... not to mention an opportunity for my entire family to gather together to do what we do best - eat. OH you know it! That means an incredible amount of food presented to a very large group of people who will eat till their pants are too tight and then discuss new diet plans and how the next dinner party should have less food. Um. Sure.

This year, I have the honor of making the egg basket. This is a huge deal. It's only bestowed upon the master-level "chefs" in the family. (OK, I'm slightly exaggerating). Everyone expects a ho-hum Easter basket filled with solid red, yellow, and blue coloured eggs but do I have some tricks up my sleeve. My basket is going to kick some butt... I know it isn't a competition but who doesn't want to be known as the ultimate egg artisan? (Is there such a title? if yes, I will win it). I've spent a few nights figuring out design, color scheme and the element of surprise... I'm in love with this, this and this... I can't wait for the egg cracking competition... winner gets bragging rights. So that's the weekend coming up but let's chat about last weekend. Crappy weather meant we couldn't enjoy our back patio as much as we wanted to. It was sunny for a minute (when I snapped this picture) and the clouds rolled in. Clearly I can't wait for the warmer temperatures.

I did convince Hungry Husband to come to Evergreen Brick Works with me. You know how much I love that place. I had to promise him an unforgettable Sunday brunch to get him out of bed and moving but it was worth it. We had coffee, walked around, tasted delicious cheese and brought home yummy produce (organic pea shoots, Swiss chard, heirloom carrots) & meats. Specifically, Hungry Husband insisted on trying venison sausage. On Sunday morning, he woke up to a delicious breakfast - promise kept!
Sunny Side Up Sunday It was our first time trying venison and we weren't disappointed. Slightly on the lean side, venison is a healthier alternative to the traditional sausage - as long as it is 100% venison. I sauteed fresh pea shoots and sun dried tomatoes with garlic and sea salt to rest the sunny side eggs on. Delicious, delicious delicious. Don't you just love a lazy Sunday?

Watch out for my eggsperiments... coming up later this week. Enjoy! Sunny Side Up Sunday
