…supersede

IMG_2295It’s opening weekend of 2WC’s 2015 Summer of Blockbusters, and I thought I’d continue the party by giving one of the often overlooked Avengers a moment to shine.

It’s no secret that when it comes to the Avengers, some of these heroes are more widely recognized than others. It’s to be expected, but there’s a gap in this group that may surprise you.

A recent Twitter request from the Hulk (aka Mark Ruffalo) that Marvel start making more merchandise for Black Widow, revealed a rather startling disparity among Earth’s mightiest heroes.

.@Marvel we need more #BlackWidow merchandise for my daughters and nieces. Pretty please.

The gross inequality was discovered by Huffington Post, and the stark contrast may shock you. Brace yourselves. Here’s how the Avengers measure up when it comes to merchandise options on Marvel’s website:

  • Captain America: 125 items
  • Iron Man: 120 items
  • Thor: 105 items
  • Hulk: 100 items
  • Black Widow: 33 items
  • Hawkeye: 30 items

Has the success of heroes like Katniss taught us nothing? How have you let this happen Marvel? In today’s comic book climate, there’s no reason Hawkeye should be at the bottom of this list.

I don’t know about you, but I like to think we live in a world where archers can be seen as heroes too.
