…take a Stand

blue chairBefore, I begin, I have to ask you to get out of your chair. You’re going to want to be standing for the news I’m about to drop on you.

Your chair is trying to kill you.

Don’t panic, just stand up slowly, and walk away, preferably at a pace that constitutes a cardio workout.

This probably isn’t news to most of you. Unless you’ve been living in a box (in which case I hope there was enough room to stand), you’ve probably already heard that sitting is the new smoking. It’s the latest unhealthy trend—not sitting.

This really shouldn’t have ever been news to any of us. I don’t think anyone ever thought inactivity was good for us, but the sudden crop of studies condemning the health of anyone who sits while at work were disheartening to say the least. Not to mention the insistence that exercising during those non-sitting hours wasn’t going to save you from your sedentary fate. I mean, if that’s true, then what is the point.

But I bring good news, they changed their minds…not about sitting too much being bad for you, but about the whole “exercise won’t save you” part of their fear mongering.

All I have to say is, “no way.” So, rejoice active people who have to sit while at work, there’s still hope for you…for now. We all know “science” is a fickle friend.
