…take another look

This What to Watch Wednesday, crusaders, it occurred to me that it's been nearly a week since the Emmy nominations were announced and I have neglected to mention any snubs. And I think I might just keep it that way.

Don't get me wrong, there are plenty of shows that I love that were sorely neglected by the Emmys this year ("Crazy Ex-Girlfriend" and "Jane the Virgin" deserved better), but I have to acknowledge that there is just too much TV to possibly cover in one award show, (and maybe it's time the award shows started recognizing that too).

So, today I won't scold the powers that be for ignoring so many great shows while continuing to pile praises on the same shows over and over again (even if they are worthy of the praise), but I will share a few of the overlooked in the hopes that someone else might appreciate they're excellence.

Okay, technically this show got two nominations, one for acting (Sandra Oh) and one for writing (Phoebe Waller-Bridge)...now, someone explain to me how a well-written show doesn't get included in best drama? But I digress. This international caper was without a doubt one of the best new shows of the year, you won't want to miss it.

While I think many may have lost interest post-Einstein, that's a real shame. This season's story (Pablo Picasso)made it pretty clear what the intent of this anthology is, humanizing these giants among men. Makes you wonder what next season with Mary Shelley will bring (I see monsters in our future).

"Jane the Virgin" and "Crazy Ex-Girlfriend"

I'm grouping these two because they both happen to be heading into their final season on the same network, so I can only assume the Emmys are just saving all the awards for their final season, so they can tie for everything and make Emmy history. These quirky, smart, funny shows have pushed barriers in so many different ways, blazing new frontiers for women in television.

But let's not forget what matters most this week, "Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again" is out this Friday!
