Amazon is looking to find its own corner of the sky for its army…I mean squadron…let’s go with fleet…of delivery drones. Whether you like it or not, that means that this whole drone thing is probably here to stay.
So how high will Amazon be flying?
Well, if they get there way, about 200 to 400 feet above you. Which sounds like a lot, but when you consider the heights of many sky scrapers are way over that (Willis Tower is over 1700 ft), it does cause some concerns over safety and air traffic control. If you’d like even more perspective on that height, redwoods can grow to be almost 400 ft tall.
Oh, and there’s also the whole issue of landing sites. It’s all fun and progressive until someone gets taken out by a drone while grabbing the morning paper.
We can only hope they figure out these kinks before actually offering this service. Beta tests are all well and good when we’re talking about smartphones or tablets. The worst that can happen is your phone crashes.
A beta drone test on the other hand, well that’s a completely different kind of crash.
