As you may or may not know, it’s Pride Weekend. This weekend the LGBTQ community and their allies will gather and celebrate across the country.
The fact that these celebrations have become an annual tradition for so many communities is a wonderful. It’s a yearly reminder of how far we’ve come in terms of tolerance and acceptance.This weekend also offers an opportunity to reflect on how far we still have to go.
I know. That sounds really depressing and ominous, and Pride is supposed to be a celebration.
Here’s the good news. We have a weapon that’s really easy to use. It’s called kindness. True, it’s not as flashy as snark or the increasingly popular “well they did this,” excuse, but it’s way more effective.
It won’t always be easy, and you won’t always be heard. However, those willing to listen will. Plus, you’ll annoy the crap out of those who aren’t ready to listen.
So this Pride Weekend, have fun, be safe, and above all else, be kind.
