…Take Stock

Twitter_logo_blueTMI tweeters, today is not your lucky day. If you don’t know what I’m talking about, then odds are, you’re one of them (or you don’t use Twitter).

If you’ve ever drunk-tweeted, angry-tweeted, or the worst of them all, tweeted while stupid, then you’ll want to keep reading.

Twitter has saved all your tweets. I know that shouldn’t come as a total surprise, but the fact that they’re now easy for anyone on the Internet to search, it should raise some concerns.

Yes, that’s right. Until recently, it wasn’t possible to search through Twitter for tweets that were shared more than a week or so ago.  That tweet you’d rather forget from a month ago was safely in the hands of the Twitter gods, and couldn’t be found (easily) by anyone with access to the Internet.

Of course, now that’s all changed.

So, what can you do to protect what’s left of your online dignity?  Well, you could go back and delete every single questionable tweet you’ve ever sent.

Will that completely undo the damage? No.  But at least it will give you a new false sense of security.
