Teach and Learn

Posted on the 30 August 2013 by Nasehamushtaq

I read two posts from Freshly Pressed today which were highly motivational and thought-provoking.

The first one was by Subways and Tenements and the topic was The hidden damages of the list-making trend.

I’m really into making lists, on my blog, at home, just for fun in my doodle diary, anywhere. But those are the ones which this blogger thinks as being “harmless”, since my lists are mostly about things related to me- like my recent post 20 words I don’t like. Here, the author Chelsea Harvey pursues the crazily mounting fad of generalizing people and their personalities into categories. I’m not a fan of this and neither is she. She goes on to explain that every person has unique qualities and should not be listed under a particular heading describing the whole of his/hers personality because we all are compounds of varying traits and habits and cannot and should not be compartmentalized. I’ve tried to explain something similar in my post The Human Mind, previously.

The second post was by Lindsay Leigh Bentley and the topic was what Miley taught me about parenting.

This is an informative article and I simply agree with the writer even though, being a 20-year-old, I might not seem mature enough but I completely get her point. I would like to add that parents shouldn’t agree to every single one of their child’s wishes. “No” should not be the ultimate command but “No” along with an appropriate but firm explanation should suffice. This is how my parents raised me up and I am satisfied with it. This way we not only get to develop our personalities but we also get to avoid mistakes by learning from our elders’ experiences. Many people believe that all kinds of creativity should be encouraged among children but it would be better for them if you keep protecting them from making huge mistakes from time to time and explain this to them that:

“Smart people learn from their mistakes. But the real sharp ones learn from the mistakes of others.” ―Brandon Mull, Fablehaven

Similar views of mine mainly featured on a burning trend among South Asians can be checked out in From the pens of Naseha.

Concluding this with the hope that productive thinking, actions and mentality take high statistics in the future. Amen!
