The Best Of : The Processional

Posted on the 26 July 2017 by Belinda Mccarthy @b_mccarthyphoto

The processional is one of those key moments in a wedding day; a moment which can be a one in a lifetime event. As a wedding photographer, it's vital that we capture a processional in the most striking, emotive way - which will help both bride and groom recall those wonderful emotions they experienced during this moment every time they look at the image.

For many weddings, however, including this wedding at Sherborne Abbey in Dorset, the photographer does not have access to the area in front of church, where they may get a shot of the groom's face as he awaits his bride. However, if we're asked to stay at the back of the church during the processional, it doesn't mean that we can't get stunning shots - as this wonderful processional image shows.

I was able to make the most of the shaft of light illuminating the bride's path up the aisle to create a really dramatic shot - which is key at a moment of high drama! Not only that, this shot shows off the bride's gorgeous dress and veil so beautifully... an outfit she had doubtless spent months choosing and dreaming of wearing on her wedding day.

I absolutely love this shot, which shows such striking interplay between light and dark - and it's also great that it was shot in one of my favourite local venues, Sherborne Abbey!
