The Fear Of…..

Posted on the 26 March 2019 by Laurken @stoicjello

Phobias are a dime a dozen.   Look in any shrink’s DSM (which is short for The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorder, a very large book found on the  desk or in the liibraries of every behavioral expert on Earth).     It’s filled with weird,, but very real phobias and fears;  the kind that induces sheer terror and “triggers” something as mild as a littler shudder to a full banshee-like wailing and the need for affixing blame and finding a safe place littered with racially diverse, gender-fluid coloring books.

See?   Phobias created Third Wave SJW Liberals!

I kid, I kid.

As a child, I was scared of spiders but I also deeply respected them, especially  the poisonous ones.   Growing up in South Texas afforded me the chance to get to know the Black Widow and Brown Recluse spiders very well.    It fascinated me that something so small….like bacteria…could do much damage or even kill.

I’m not crazy about snakes or any of the flying insects that sting, but the fears don’t incite hysteria.

I’m definitely not a fan of complete darkness.     That fear called is  achluophobia.

I’m claustrophobic and that was a latent fear.   I didn’t realize I had a fear of being in close, confined  spaces until my first MRI more than 20 years ago.

I have a fear of motionless, dead-weight on top of me.   That’s called Tapjophobia, which is hell on your intimate relationships.

In my teen years, I saw my first lotus flower in an arrangement and freaked out.     All those irregular  holes with little ball+like seeds in them.

Trypophobia is a very real.   Some also include hating honeycombs,  wasp nests and the like. For me, it’s the irregularity of the holes,   The lotus pod creates a visceral response for me.  I not only have to look away, I csn’t even be in the same room as a pod.

A fear of dogs is called Cynophobia.  If you’re scared of mice, you’re a musophobic.   To be anemophobic means you’re scared of wind.    Seriously.   A fear of wind, .    feeling it on their skin, seeing it’s blow tree branches scaround.   I’m no expert, but I’d say that could be result of surviving a tornado, hurricane or dating a pilot.

Spectrophobia is a fear of mirrors and one’s own reflection. F4B54AD0-426F-4CE0-A75C-FE84DB9E408A

I have a varied degree of that, but it’s mainly due to a bad haircut and new facial lines that appear every damn day.

Here’s a weird one:   arachibutyrophobia6E286641-7D40-45CE-BB14-99C7B7115ACE.  7

Hard to pronounce and hard to believe, but real.   It’s the fear of peanut butter sticking to the roof of one’s mouth.   Gross.

An extremely rare phobia in the US, except for the District of Columbia is  allodoxaphobia .  It’s what you have when you fear opinions.   This one makes no sense to me, but it’s believed the phobia is believed to be associated with previous encounters wherein the person affected wasn’t  able to properly express hisvor her  opinion, or has had their opinion rejected.   It also reflects a fear of confrontation.

Scared of opening your eyes?

Yep, there’s a fear for that, too.   That’s called. Having Optophobia. How do these people sleep?    Sounds like the king of all paranoia cases and obsessive behavior.

I also have odontophobia, or dentophobia.    These are fears of dentists generally, but there’s another aspect of this repulsion.   I cannot look at or be around people with  ugly, weird, oversized, misshapen teeth…human or animal.

For example:

Absolutely gruesome.

Check out philophobia.   This is a petrifying feat of falling in love or having ANY kind of  close relationships.    Experts suspect  Elizabeth I had this phobia.

Scared of potatoes?     Fries, baked, mashed, grilled boiled, or just sitting in your grocer’s  produce section than you, ya big weirdo, have Potnonomicaphobia.

And then there’s Turophobia.   People who “Camembert” being anywhere near cheese have this phobia.   Researchers believe it stems from a traumatic experience the patient might have had with cheese.        Really???

From cheddar to mozzarella ,maybe even Velveeta and squeeze cheese, too, turophobes often have to run away if they so much as see a slice of cheese.    Some may fear one type of cheese while others fear cheese altogether.

Ephebiphobia is a fear of young people.   It is!,  I shit you not!!   It was big in the 60’s when the those in “the establishment” felt kids were too radical  in their idealism and they weren’t to scared to use violence like burning down the ROTC building on campus, to prove their point..   They feared days when these long haired, pinko hippie types would be in charge.

Guess every generation has a little of that.  To be honest, I’ve been feeling a little leary of that myself lately.

Genuphobia a is a fear of knees.     Don’t ask.

Scritophobia is a fear of  writing in public.

Sinistrophibia:     A fear of  things on  the left of you.   Maybe even Bernie and AOC.   Not sure how you can have this fear when your constsntly surrounded by things on your left.   I didn’t believe this one at first….but it’s real.   Rare, but real.  Oh Heath, it has a right sided fear:  dextrophobia

Bromidrophobia: a fear of body odor.     Hhhhmmmmm, I wonder if that’s having BO yourself or being around someone who does?

Omphalophobia is a fear of belly buttons .

Peladophobia:  the fear of bald people.

Xaireaphobia is the fear of saying goodbye or goodnight,     Fortunately, I don’t possess this fear.  It’s late and I’m tired, so………..

Goodnight , mi gente.
