The Saga of Office Boy: The Explanation.
The Beginning | Facts About Myself | Don't Mess With An English Major | The Bake SaleThe Favor | The Rescue | The Brothel | The Number | The Wrist, Part One | The Wrist, Part TwoThe Sighting | The Question | The ConcernMy mind was going 800 miles a minute. After asking if I wanted to go to a bar with him and a friend on Friday night, Office Boy hadn't shown up at work and now it was nearly 8:00pm. It had been four hours since I had sent him a text message and I still had no response.
Because of the way my brain functions, I immediately assumed the worst. I didn't consider that maybe he was just sleeping or his phone was on silent or the battery died. No, I was wondering if he had been kidnapped or what hospital he might currently be sitting in. Yes, that's how ridiculous I am.
After unsuccessfully trying to rest for about 30 minutes because I was unable to turn my brain off, I went upstairs to talk to my parents and try to clear my head. Four hours had now gone by and I wasn't waiting any longer. I went back down to my room where my phone sat, resolved to call him and figure out what the heck was going on.
I picked up my phone and there was a message from him.
I wasn't feeling well so I didn't come into work today. I just woke up.
I breathed a sigh of relief and felt a simultaneous rush of frustration.
You were sick and you didn't think to text me at some random point throughout the day to let me know?
Ok, good. I'm glad you're okay. But next time, just let me know. I was getting really worried, I texted back.
I'm sorry. I didn't mean to ruin your night.
You didn't ruin it.
But you could've made other plans.
It's fine. I'm not really much of a party girl anyway. I'm much more of a stay home and watch a movie kind of girl.
What do you usually do on Friday nights?
It completely depends on the weekend. Last weekend was the rehearsal, rehearsal dinner and bachelorette party. The week before was Christmas concerts, and the week before that was recording for the CD.
You're making an album?
Hah. I wish. No, we make a CD for the Christmas concert every year.
Oh, I don't know very much about music.
That's okay. :) What do you usually do on Fridays?
Go out or not go out. I'm kind of boring.
That's okay. Boring isn't always a bad thing. :)
Admittedly, I was somewhat disappointed that we didn't go out, but we decided a rain check would happen sometime in the near future, likely while watching Ghostbusters.
Hollywood does crazy things to some people. Others seem to be unaffected by all the hype, I texted.
Like Bill Murray.
Indeed.
And Dan Aykroyd.
Who?
O.O You don't know who Dan Aykroyd is?
...no.
Have you never seen Ghostbusters?
...no.
:'(
I'm sorry.
It's my favorite movie.
Well, I guess we'll just have to watch it sometime then.
I have it on Blu-Ray.
Excellent. :)
The evening didn't turn out as planned, but we spent from 8:00pm until midnight texting back and forth about pretty much everything under the sun from the things we're allergic to, our favorite meal, how much TV we watch each week (and what shows) and how Hollywood does crazy things to some people but not others (which spawned the Ghostbusters discussion), all while watching Netflix at our respective homes.
After sending the last text, I set my phone on my nightstand, leaned back in bed and flipped off the light. Good night. Good night, indeed.
Check back Friday for the next installment in The Saga of Office Boy!
